Serial and Adnan Syed
|
Adnan Syed was just a normal high school student, until his ex-girlfriend went missing and was found murdered. When the trial process went on, his lawyer did not do the best by Adnan and he was found guilty. The only real "evidence" that was found against Adnan was the testimony of his friend Jay, who in the tape sounded as if he was making everything up as he went along, and the testimony of Adnan's best friend Jennifer, who Jay called and told the story he had, so she actually believed it to be true. He was accused with no tangible proof, just as muslims are accused of all being terrorists. Dalia Mogahed, in her ted talk, spoke about the fear and false accusations against muslims that are an everyday battle. When people get scared and are bombarded with false informations about a certain person, or type of person. they look to blame others and project their fears on others. Adnan was blamed before there was proof. No one should make accusations without having the proper research and details to back up their claims.
I have never faced such hardships in my life. I do not claim to understand what people go through and face everyday of their lives. Being accused of terrorism, murder, and other false things would make me angry. However, these courageous people who face these misfortunes, handle it, for the most part, extremely well. They stand up tall, proud and confident with who they are. Adnan is not angry that he was convicted, he just wants the truth to be heard. |
